Last week, Broomfield Residents Committee met with Waheed, owner of the Broomfield vacant care home and he shared insight into his plans.

Following the withdrawal of his planning application to open the care home as a hostel, he has explored other options including a community centre with multiple businesses such as GP, cafe, reopen a care home and a retirement complex.

He has reiterated his promise not to open the vacant care home as a hostel and is currently pursuing the retirement complex option with an rent and/or buy apartments for retirees with communal lounge areas and services such as small shop, hairdressers and 2 spare apartments for visiting family members to rent while visiting.

Waheed gave us a tour of the building and shared plans where he will make structural changes to accommodate large rooms for the self contained flats to include ensuites, washer/dryers with each flat having its own electric meter etc.

We think the local community would benefit from such a proposal and are keen to hear your thoughts.

Would you support these plans?

We will continue to keep Broomfield Residents and the local community informed of progress/changes.
