Petition updateStop the privatisation of Channel 4feckless, frivolous, ridiculous.

These are serious times:

We need serious politics not frivolous and pointless posturing.

Channel 4 has a proven track record: a hugely successful model that delivers financially and on its remit to level up - championing voices and talent from across our communities.

We own it, it belongs to us, it's not theirs to sell.

Please tweet directly to the new Culture Secretary, Michelle Donelan.

We need to let her know that we don't want this:

"I am one of over 490,000 people who have signed this petition to stop the privatisation of channel 4. @Michelledonelan will you commit to saving Channel 4 from privatisation?"

********

Apparently Jacob Rees-Mogg's consultation to bring back old fashioned imperial measurements gives the public no option to object.

What a surprise. It's about as democratic as 96% of the respondents to the government's own consultation paper on the Channel 4 sell-off saying it's a bad idea and it still going ahead.

How much will it cost to bring back imperial?

It will be an expensive and utterly pointless exercise in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

What an absurd and embarrassing waste of time and money

Feckless, frivolous, ridiculous

Where are the government's priorities?

Aren't there more important things to be dealing with? It is a policy that speaks to a very particular demographic and is not remotely in the interests of the population at large. It will generate nothing but unnecessary confusion and mayhem.

Who cares about this?

Seriously. Don't we have enough on??

We're worried about heating our homes and putting food on our families tables this winter not pounds and ounces.

'A poll by YouGov in 2015 of British adults found that younger people tended to favor the metric system, with more than 60 percent of those ages 18 to 39 saying they would measure short distances in meters, compared with less than 12 percent of those over 60.' (NYTimes)

It's politicians' job to act in our interests.

Please can the government stop just acting in theirs.

This, after all, is supposed to be a democracy.

Channel 4 is the home of Great British Bake Off, Gogglebox, Derry Girls, Channel 4 News.

Let's keep trying to protect it.
