Rushed, Lopsided Downtown plan, with ZERO proof of safety - ask Trustees to Vote NO this Monday

$1.9M plan for only HALF of downtown? HALF of town will be "updated" with lots of expensive, labor-intensive (to screw in and out) bollards, MORE CEMENT for dining and LESS storefront PARKING. With ZERO proof of safety on the bollards, on switching to parallel parking (on a one-way slip-lane, which takes much longer to maneuver than diagonal) and on extended closures for dining.
Urge the trustees to VOTE NO again on this rushed, unsafe, impractical Downtown plan, which now proposes updates on only half of downtown and lines of expensive bollards for extended dining season closures in our four-season Village. Winter is not going away.
Without the cost of the bollards, they could beautify the ENTIRE downtown, including our triangle traffic median. Parallel parking on the slip-lane and extended closures of the slip-lane still have NOT been tested and proven to be safe for residents. They could have conducted a test all year long, but this board already knows that last year's pilot test closure caused "vehicles stuck on the tracks,""back-ups almost to the railroad tracks," and "delivery trucks blocking southbound lanes" and yet the village president is willing to leave it to chance, and is asking your trustees to irresponsibly plow ahead with an exorbitant expense on bollards and more cement over parking. What's the rush? Test this first. Trustees need to make the responsible decision for resident safety. Not a forced decision based on political term expiration dates.
ATTEND the Village Board Meeting this MONDAY, Sept 21 at 6:30 at Village Hall.
