Petition updateStop the Plaza Plan in Clarendon Hills, ILGOOD/BAD News: Permanent closure averted, BUT 'seasonal' closure and zero-grade treatment is planned

The Village will KEEP the slip-lane OPEN in the winter months, BUT they are now ultimately targeting summer and dining 'seasonal' CLOSURES of our critical slip-lane, which poses the SAME RISKS as outlined during this entire battle.

AND yet ANOTHER RISK was just tossed on top of these 'seasonal' closings; a ZERO-GRADE treatment of our slip-lane was outlined at Monday's Village board meeting, modeled after Lombard's new arched pedestrian street, which is HOT a main passage and that filters ZERO train traffic. This means that our slip-lane, our parking and our sidewalks will ALL be one giant expanse of pavers, to facilitate these 'seasonal' dining closures. This is not practical, normal or safe.

The Village will spend over $1M to accommodate diners on a flat expanse of concrete and then block our passage through town in the 6 months of dining 'season.'

We will watch closely to sss if our professional traffic engineering firm, CBBEL, agrees with this type of zero-grade treatment on a critical filter lane in a village with 176 train gate releases each and every day of the year.  We will continue the fight for safe and proven passage into, through and around our downtown to maintain traffic flow and to support our merchants every day of every year.

PLEASE Stay Tuned. Next board meeting is not until May, but we are keeping close tabs on developments in the meantime. And we will wait for ALL Downtown survey results to be released.
