URGENT!!! PLEASE READ!!! Dear supporters of a natural trail: YOU are about to be stabbed in the back at the State Capital. A legislator has tacked on a "miscellaneous" provision to a state bonding bill that will be considered in the Special Session that is being held TOMORROW. The provision would require the DNR to make the river trail a PAVED trail between the Bloomington Ferry Bridge and the Cedar Avenue Bridge. The provision we oppose is here: Bonding bill - Article 3 (Misc. Sec. 2) Starts Line 26.2, language requiring a paved trial is on lines 26.12-26.15. http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/comm/docs/2f51bd9c-7d2c-486d-ad3e-928d73fa5f27.pdf We need YOU to email these key legislators, and your OWN legislators. Sorry for the links for the Senators. That's all that is available on line...and in a hurry. Rep. Jim Knoblach (chair of House Ways and Means) - rep.jim.knoblach@house.mn Sen. Dick Cohen (chair of Finance) - http://www.senate.mn/members/member_emailform.php?mem_id=1008&ls= Sen. Thomas Bakk (Senate Majority leader) - http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/members/member_emailform.php?mem_id=1003&ls= House Speaker Kurt Daudt - rep.kurt.daudt@house.mn House Bonding Chair Paul Torkelson - rep.paul.torkelson@house.mn Rep. Alice Hausman - rep.alice.hausman@house.mn Senate Bonding Chair Leroy Stumpf - http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/members/member_emailform.php?mem_id=1063&ls= Rep. Sarah Anderson - rep.sarah.anderson@house.mn Rep. Tom Hackbarth - rep.tom.hackbarth@house.mn Sen. David Tomassoni - http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/members/member_emailform.php?mem_id=1064&ls= Let these leaders know that this provision is VERY controversial and was not introduced as a bill. Mention your opposition and the over 3000 people who have signed the petition to keep this trail in its current state as a NATURAL and UNPAVED trail. We need you to contact the legislators listed below NOW as in RIGHT NOW and respectfully request that they either remove this provision from the bonding bill where it does not belong, or amend the provision to require an UNPAVED trail. Tell them that this trail should be kept in its current state as a natural surface trail. PLEASE do this now because the time is now! Share with friends and encourage them to share on bike related social media, and to send a short, respectful email opposing this sneaky bill effort to pave the river bottoms. Democracy works for those who show up!! You could wake up on Sunday with a paved river trail as an absolute certainty if you do not help NOW! Steve for Save the River Bottoms
