Thank you!

Dear All,
Re: Application to import cut-flowers of carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) line FLO-40685-2 for distribution and retail under directive 2001/18/EC
Resistance to chlorsulfuron herbicides.
Number: FLO-40685-2 (FLORIGENE®Moonvista™) carnation
Thank you very much, for signing this petition. The minister receive the petition but it did not help. Because the Court (Raad van State) would have the last word. The firm could go ahead with the study. But we do not stop! Now I have started a new petition:
In short:
About the placing on the EU market of GM carnation Moonvista™.
We, The European GMO-free Citizens will together with Mrs. Wieteke van Dort (well known Dutch actress and artist) and a lot citizens of the EU sent an objection (in Dutch) to the Dutch Ministry of Environment. This because of the placing on the EU market of a genetically engineered carnation with a change in flower colour. The GM carnations are grown in Colombia* and Ecuador. Florigene Ltd. from Australia first was the company, that produced the carnations, nowadays Suntory Flowers Ltd. From Japan does. https://www.suntory.com/business/service/index2.html
In 2019 the Minister of Infrastructure and Waterways wants to place this crippled GM carnation on the EU market. This must be performed every again 10 years. The European GMO-free Citizens wil again write an objection (in Dutch) together with Mrs.Van Dort. But also stated this petition.
Off types
“Off-types. From 2011, it was noted in both Ecuador and Colombia production that the line contained plants which produced not the flowers with the right color (off-types). These off-types are not exported to the EU. Experiments demonstrated these off-types to exhibit a changed anthocyanin profile and a changed flower morphology. The unique identification test validated by JRC was positive for both this line and its off-types and thus shows the off-type to be transgenic.” Source: Assessment report of the Netherlands CA.
Strange things happening in the DNA: three newly expressed proteins
4. Analysis of the sequences of the three newly expressed proteins in this line using protein sequence databases indicated no biologically significant homology to toxins or allergens. The three newly expressed proteins are ubiquitous, well- characterized proteins and are not known to be allergens. Application.
So we think, the GM carnations are very instable.
Labeling for the EU only on the sleeve of the flowers, that is not in accordance with the Commission Decision
The buyer will not know what he is buying because the shopkeeper will remove the sleeves. Also when he makes a (bridal) bouquet, no one will know.
“10) Proposed labelling (only in the EU), on a label or in an accompanying document, should include wording to inform operators and final users that the cut flowers of Dianthus caryophyllus L., line FLO-40685-2 can not be used for human or animal consumption nor for cultivation.”
(e) the words ‘This product is a genetically modified organism’ or ‘This product is a genetically modified carnation’ and the words ‘not for human or animal consumption nor for cultivation’ shall appear either on a label or in a document accompanying the product.
The European GMO-free Citizens object to COMMISSION DECISION of 16 March 2009 concerning the placing on the market, in accordance with Directive 2001/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of a carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L., line FLO-40685-2) genetically modified for flower colour.
Florigene writes: “The pleasure the product has given to consumers”
Our opinion is that there will be no pleasure when Europeans and other people will know the carnations are GMO´s. But the truth is kept from them. Is this pleasure the product has given to consumers investigated?
All carnations can be sprayed with fungicides
In the course of production of carnations, whole plants are treated with fungicides. This is true of transgenic and non-transgenic carnation as well as other flowers such as roses and chrysanthemums.Treatments are carried out when conditions pose a risk of fungal disease as a result of climatic conditions, such as high humidity. Plants from which flowers have been harvested may therefore have been recently treated with fungicides. Transgenic and non-transgenic (GM) carnation flowers are harvested before flowers are fully open and may or may not be sprayed with fungicides after harvest, depending on the risk of post-harvest fungal disease. Email of Florigene.
Fungicides are dangerous for our health.
“That means the landscape of risk includes Colombia*, the world’s second-largest flower grower after the Netherlands: Azole-resistant fungi and azole drug residues have been found not just on flower farms, but also in flower beds and public gardens in the capital, Bogota.” Quote of The Atlantic. https://www.theatlantic.com/amp/article/574489/
The fungicides are the same as the drugs against people who suffer from fungi infection. There are 4 drugs that help best but in agriculture they also are the best fungicides.
When a sick person who suffers from a fungi infection, walks past a flower bed that is sprayed with fungicides and where in the soil or/and on the foliage a fungi has become resistant to that fungi, the drug does not help any more when the patient inhales the resistant fungi.
EP Parliament objects to herbicide-resistant GM carnation and maize authorisations
Press Releases
PLENARY SESSION
08-06-2016 - 13:58
Quote: The EU Commission should withdraw its authorisations for the use of herbicide-resistant GM carnations and maize, say two non-binding resolutions voted on Wednesday. Authorising GM carnations would encourage the worldwide use of a diabetes medicine as a herbicide, while the GM maize is resistant to glyphosate, which is classified as “probably carcinogenic” by the World Health Organisation (WHO), MEPs say.
The European GMO-free Citizens object to GGO C/NL/13/02/00
To prohibit azoles
It would be best to prohibit the 4 best working azoles that are used in agriculture and only use those 4 best working azoles in hospitals. And to prohibit import or transit of plants, flowers and non-food that are sprayed with those best working azoles.
A last remark
“GMO is pseudo science. It generates a spaghetti biodiversity. It is against the general interest (bonum commune) and the general will (La volonté générale) of the people. It has nothing to do with reality.” Quote of the late Mr. R. Verlinden, former chairman of the Foundation VoMiGEN.
