Stop the Online Safety Act in Canada; Bring Freedom and Privacy back!

The Issue

As a person in Canada, I have to say, every single day I get more untrustworthy and more disgusted by the days with this act passed by the United Kingdom.

The main selling point to force Social Media to apply to it is that it "protects the kids". Let me be clear, the opposite is more true. Data leaks have already happened because of this, and it's enabling the more corrupt sides of media. This was never about kids, it was always about keeping tabs on everyone. Even the saying "We'll delete the information" has been proven null. This more so applies to Persona but my point still stands. This act is a wolf in sheep's clothing and is making everyone's lives in real life, and the internet worse.

This act that was meant for the UK, has affected so many more countries and only the companies (Roblox and Discord specifically) have been legally challenged. However, the UK won't change it. Why would they? It's free information for themselves.

However, one act from a country shouldn't affect others, especially across continents. They even specifically state here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-safety-act-explainer/online-safety-act-explainer that " The Act applies to services even if the companies providing them are outside the UK should they have links to the UK.". It states that in the UK, companies should follow the act if they have links to the UK. Never does it say that outside of the UK they shall follow it. However, the Acts existence enables parts of these companies that they have tried to hide for years; that they want your information.

I believe that Canada should pass their own law to prevent companies to forcefully ask for your whole credit card and biometric data to gain settings, awards, add-ons, or anything else that without the verification, stops a primary setting, or reveals personal details unless verified on social media or video game experiences as those force people, and disqualifies artificial intelligence from being used for verification that doesn't heavily affect your experience. which nullify the biggest issues with the Online Safety Act - 2023. It's also not that bad of a law if Canada wanted to pass other safety acts as it leaves wiggle room.

This act has painted a true picture of company motives, but it's the countries lack of action that causes it, and it's no different for Canada. Canada doesn't focus enough in the Internet as it really should in terms of protecting it's user's, not just arresting the bad actors. Canada paints the picture that they care about our, the citizens, opinions. So they should show us that by doing what I've suggested or something similar. They are just negligent if they refuse or ignore this issue, which they have been since 2023, the year this act began. Plus, this can also lead to many crucial/popular companies for Canada to be put under legal questioning for this act if they too, like Roblox and Discord, mess up with our data

Let's gain back our privacy and freedom from the United Kingdom! To not have to be afraid of easier data leaks in the sites we use frequently and so that we don't have to be scared anymore. We can set an example for other countries that people don't want this, and the people that do have either been tricked, or prey on this type of bad executions with safety. But we can only do that if this petition becomes popular, so let's go Canadians!
