Dear supporters,
Thank you all for sharing and supporting our petition – we are about to pass 7,500 signatures! We couldn’t thank you enough. Please continue to share: friends, family, groupchats, Facebook groups, everywhere!
Excitingly, our story was picked up by news outlet Junkee who interviewed Dolfi’s eldest child, Mika. It is a heartfelt interview which I encourage you to read: https://junkee.com/nsw-government-bees/342660
Some highlights from the article:
“The lack of transparency is really disturbing to us, because under what basis are these decisions being made, and why is it not being shared with people?”
“Alternative, safer methods for removing the mite from affected hives do exist… None of these treatments have been endorsed by the DPI, or made available as options to beekeepers — in a move described as putting down a dog with fleas.”
“It’s an immediate emergency for us, but it’s a long-term problem for people and it’s not going to go away.”
Unfortunately, Dolfi’s bees are still scheduled to be killed tomorrow. Though this petition will probably not stop that from happening, we can try to stop it from happening to others. As Mika said in his article, “even, god forbid, they kill my family’s bees tomorrow, it still won’t be too late because we’re not the only ones affected”.
The NSW Parliament requires ePetitions to have at least 20,000 signatures to be brought to debate. The more we keep fighting, the closer we can get to this goal.
Thank you again!
With love,
Chaya
