Stop the Noise Pollution - we can’t hear ourselves

Stop the Noise Pollution - we can’t hear ourselves
The Issue
I left Dehra Dun in 1995 just as the city was beginning to grow and each time I visited my hometown I could see the construction in the name of development encroaching the green landscape.
Growing up in Dun was a privilege only the people who grew up here reminiscing will talk about. There was good weather , greenery and a serenity which few towns or cities in India could boast about . We all carried a chip on our shoulder when we spoke about our town. A town known for good schools , natural beauty and national institutions slowly crumbled over the years giving way to the burgeoning population and mindless construction.
Homecoming four years back still seemed a good option when compared to NCR’s pollution levels but as someone who has seen this town in its prime it hurts. I can always look at worse off places and say I am better off or stop my town from becoming one of them soon.
The sound of birds chirping has been overtaken by the immense cacophony created by humans . It hurts my eyes and it hurts my ears. The constant blaring of horns and sound of traffic is incessant. This is something as people of this country we need to learn to stop but as if this isn’t enough, every second day the need to take out processions with DJ on the trucks blasting cheap music , blaring music on any religious processions , political rallies or national day is becoming a norm . Why on earth can’t there be an embargo on it. When did we become more religious or nationalists with use of loud music and loudspeakers.
I request our CM Mr Dhami to put a ban on use of megaphones , loud music like Madhya Pradesh has declared keeping in mind the sound decibels norm of sound pollution control .
Let’s not be deaf and blind till it’s too late. Pls sign this petition to put sound pollution control policy in place for Uttarakhand
