As many of you know, you are being charged a Power Cost Recovery Adjustment charge on your NBU statements. This charge is more than the kWh charge of your useage.  The normal rate for electricity in New Braunfels, TX is .0552 per kWh. With the added charge of the PCRA, New Braunfels Utility citizens are paying about .13 a kWh for electricity in all per the latest bill for July 2022. This amount for electricity is unacceptable.

 NBU is a municipally owned utility company which means that the City of New Braunfels is in charge of the rate. The PCRA charge has been increasing for the last few months with no warning from NBU or the City's Rate Advisory Committee. The residents were not asked to vote on the Rate Advisory members nor did they have any input on the committee. New Braunfels residents are completely taken aback by the increase in their electric portion of their utility bill which is resulting in financial burdens and strain for New Braunfels families.

 Many residents have reached out to many council members and NBU asking them to explain the charge. The citizens have been informed that the cost is due to the winter storm in Uri and the huge demand for power during that time. It has also been stated that the increase is also because of supply shortages and the global market. NBU nor the council has presented anything that will result in a decrease or removal of the PCRA. 

 As citizens we must come together to have the PCRA charge removed/reduced. The charge has become unreasonable in price and justification. Citizens of New Braunfels, some that were not residents at the time of Uri, should not be forced with the burden of repaying debt to ERCOT that the city failed to prepare for. More information is to come, but PLEASE ATTEND THE AUGUST 8TH 6PM CITY HALL CITY COUNCIL MEETING!!!! NBU is going to present information to citizens and it will be a great opportunity for New Braunfels citizens to come together and speak up.
