This is a petition to Larian Studios (and Wizards of the Coast).  We are kindly asking, please DO NOT allow Netflix to make an adaptation from Baldur's Gate 3!

One of the greatest, if not the most important aspect of role playing games is the ability to choose. A live action adaptation would mean canonisation, which goes against one of the game’s core values: player choice and the freedom to create your own story.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a brand new title, there is no need to remake or retell this story in any other form. The game mechanics and tutorials are very welcoming to new gamers. 

We kindly ask Larian studios... please do not sell out this wonderful story   to a malicious and greedy company who wants to profit off the works of others while remaking them poorly (saving money on locations, workers etc.) and with no respect towards the original themes, ideas or the people behind those ideas.

Netflix has a bad track record of not respecting what they adapt, or maintaining the atmosphere of projects they adopt. They are also notorious for cancelling projects after one season, and will do everything in their power NOT to pay the artists that work for them. Overworked and underpaid, that’s their model. Larian has more respect for the health and security of its employees; Netflix has demonstrated they don’t share those values. They also intentionally obfuscate their revenue so they don’t get caught underpaying for what they license. They won’t give this the time or budget it deserves because it has to be made while the game is “still relevant.”

 If Netflix gets the rights, BG3 will be “just another Netflix show,” without the heart and soul that literal thousands of people poured in to it over six years. What they accomplished deserves so much more care and respect than anything Netflix will offer.  Many people would only know Baldur's Gate as a generic bad fantasy and shortlived netflix show when they could have enjoyed the incredible, one of a kind experience of the game.
