Petition updateStop the Nastiness: Improve the Way Politics is ConductedThank you, Keir. And to whoever comes next — we're ready

This morning, Keir Starmer stood outside Number 10 and announced he is stepping down.

Whatever you made of his time in office, it takes real courage to lead, and real grace to let go. His voice caught as he spoke about his family and the country he loves. Say what you like about politics, that was a human being, doing his best in an impossible job. So before we say anything else: thank you, Keir.

And now, Britain turns the page.

Within weeks, we will have a new Prime Minister. A new voice. A fresh start. Since before Sir Keir came to office, we have been calling for compassion to become the anchoring value in politics. If politics has lost its way, then compassion is the magnetic north to guide it forward.

We have written many column inches and policy papers calling for a unifying, positive vision for Britain. Instead of echoing the politics of othering and blame, we needed a politics that reminds us, as Jo Cox would have said, of all we have in common.

We are preparing policy briefings for the new leader, with clear steps that can be taken to heal our country and fix our broken, extractive economy.

This fresh beginning is a moment to hope for better things. Because better things are infinitely possible when we prioritise the things that matter most.

Moments like this don't come often. When a new leader walks through that famous black door, the future is, for a short while, still being written. Priorities are forming. Minds are open. This is exactly when we can make a difference.

So here's our promise to you. Whoever comes next, we will be there to greet them. We'll bring the evidence, the campaigns, and the public support to help them build a politics rooted in kindness. A politics that drives out lying and rewards honesty. A politics brave enough to protect all of us from the growing risks of big tech and unchecked AI.

We genuinely love this work. And we'd love for you to be part of it.

We have to move now, while the door is open and the new chapter is still blank.

Will you chip in today to help us welcome the next Prime Minister with everything we've got?

SUPPORT US

Every single pound goes straight into the research, the campaigns, and the gentle-but-firm pressure that puts people back at the heart of our politics. You won't just be funding an organisation — you'll be helping shape what kind of country we become next.

A new leader is a new beginning. Let's make it a kinder one, together.

With hope, warmth, and no small amount of excitement,

Jennifer Nadel
