Earlier this year, we asked for your support to take the Truth in Politics campaign to the next stage. Thanks to your generosity, we had begun to deliver on that promise.
Last night in Kendal, Cumbria, our CEO, Jennifer Nadel, joined author and sustainability expert Mike Berners-Lee for a landmark Truth in Politics event.
The event drew a full house at the Arts Centre Theatre and gave us the opportunity to make the case for legislation to tackle political deception. Jennifer and Mike were joined on stage by MP Watch’s Jessica Townsend who invited representatives from four political parties to commit publicly to taking action.
Events in the USA show us what happens when proven liars are allowed to hold the highest office. Compassion in Politics Political Deception Bill would disqualify those who are guilty of deliberate deceit from standing for election.
The appetite for change is there and we are tapping into it. This was a crucial first step. Our goal is to host these constituency meetings in theatres and meeting spaces across the country alongside our campaign in Westminster.
We’ve already had requests to take the Truth in Politics Talk to other theatres. Get in touch if you have a theatre or public space that would be willing to host us.
By building a grassroots movement we can add still more urgency to our campaign to get our law against political deception introduced in Westminster.
All this is only possible because of you. Your support helped us reach this moment, and together we are pushing forward the fight to make political lying illegal.
If you didn’t get a chance to contribute earlier, you still could — every donation strengthened the campaign and brought us closer to change. You can support us here.
With gratitude and determination,
The Compassion in Politics Team
