This week we’ve seen the attempted assassination of the former US President and of course, here in the UK within the last 8 years, we have had the assassination of two Members of Parliament here in the UK, Jo Cox and Sir David Amess.

This election saw a disturbing rise in intimidation and direct violence. Female Labour MPs now must have Police protection.

We urgently need to change the way politics is done and tackle this toxic environment. We cannot have a situation where anyone running for election or serving in political office finds themselves at risk of intimidation and abuse.

I’ve been hitting the airwaves along with our new Democracy Lead, Anya Sizer, to talk about how to reduce the levels of intimidation and violence in politics. We are already working with politicians, campaigners, and the authorities to provide solutions.

Compassion in Politics came into existence to address the conflict based and toxic way in which politics is conducted. We are now seeing the end product of divisive and polarising rhetoric and policies - a triggered political space with intimidation and violence.

We urgently need to change how politics is done. Will you help us do that?

Help Compassion in Politics

Democracy depends upon freedom from intimidation. That means ending toxic, polarising rhetoric, restoring trust and respect in politics and ensuring that our elected representatives are free from the threat of violence.

Will you help us to do that?
