Stop the Mundy Township Megasite

Stop the Mundy Township Megasite
The Issue
A 1,138+ acre Advanced Manufacturing District (AMD), the Mundy Township Megasite, is being developed in a residential community with the hopes of selling it to a corporate buyer, specifically an American semiconductor manufacturer. This Megasite would displace families from their homes and irreversibly alter the environment.
So far the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has spent over $250,000,000 of Michigan residents’ own tax dollars to fund this widely unwanted, for-profit business venture. Private corporations are being enticed to build there with hundreds of millions of incentives via citizens’ tax dollars.
This development is headed by the Flint and Genesee Economic Alliance (FGEA), a nonprofit public-private economic development corporation which is the local branch of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

This impending manufacturing facility, which would be twice the size of Disney Land, would drastically alter the landscape and destroy neighborhoods and natural resources.
The estimated 8 million gallons of water per day necessary for semiconductor manufacturing is what marketing boasts can be drained from Lake Huron to Mundy Township if needed for semiconductor manufacturing. Michigan is surrounded by the largest source of freshwater in the entire world and its integrity must be protected.
What is the proposed site like?
Within a half of a mile of this proposed Megasite there are 13 subdivisions and mobile home communities, an elementary school, and three daycares which would all be affected or displaced. The overwhelming majority of local residents are not in favor of what this development would bring, including the clear cutting of trees, destruction of wildlife habitats, the risk of polluting peoples’ well water, and property value decimation. Furthermore, many of the promised number of job opportunities this could allegedly create are temporary just while the facility is being constructed. After the construction is complete, there is no guarantee that anybody hired will be a local resident. This concern has become increasingly valid due to the Department of Government Efficiency leaders’, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, recent urge to increase the amount of H1B visas which would bring in more foreign tech workers.
The State of Michigan has already experienced several industrial and human induced environmental disasters which proves that we are not immune to accidents and tragedy. Some examples of how Michigan citizens’ safety and health have been sacrificed in the recent past:
•Swartz Creek: Berlin and Farro Environmental Crisis
• Flint Water Crisis: Lead-Laced Water In Flint: A Step-By-Step Look At The Makings Of A Crisis
• Romulus/Van Buren Twp. Toxic & Radioactive Waste Dump: Romulus site received hazardous waste from Ohio train derailment & Manhattan Project Radioactive Waste
•Nestle bottling and selling our Great Lakes

Our plea is fundamental; we seek to retain the rural and residential essence of Mundy Township. More importantly, we seek to retain our health and a healthy planet for generations to come. We urge you to subscribe to our cause, to halt further development of the Mundy Township Mega Site. Please sign this petition to let our voices be heard.
