Stop the Multi-Docks in Stevenson Creek

Stop the Multi-Docks in Stevenson Creek
The Issue
NOTE: we sent all prior petitioners an email requesting immediate action. The Permit is at A CRITICAL STATE: please visit this page's "UPDATES" and write the emails listed. Thank you!
We residents of Clearwater, FL and beyond are deeply concerned about the future of our beloved Stevenson Creek. This estuary is under threat with immediate plans for 9 docks plus a kayak launch for the Serena townhouses and as many more are advertised in their sales material for next door, putting 20 in the mouth of this estuary. This poses a significant impact on the local ecosystem and be devastating for dolphins, mangroves and particularly for our threatened manatee population.
We studied and documented over 200 manatee in the Creek. Manatees are already an endangered species in Florida, with only about 6,620 left in the wild as per the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's count from 2017. Within a five-mile radius of the proposed site, there have been 32 manatee fatalities since 1995, with the majority occurring since 2015. Forty-four percent of these deaths were caused by watercraft collisions .The introduction of additional boat traffic would increase their risk of injury or death from propeller strikes - a leading cause of manatee mortality. Manatee signs are not present, and if added, are not enforced and speeding is not the only issue.
Increased boat traffic will stir up sediment from the Creek bed, which can harm water quality and disrupt habitats for fish and other aquatic life. According to a study by NOAA Fisheries Service, this kind of disturbance can lead to significant losses in biodiversity. $100M have already been spent to restore the Creek and make it inhabitable again, why potentially reverse it?
Stevenson Creek is not just an estuary; its been designated by the State as an Aquatic Preserve. it's home to countless species and a vital part of our community's natural heritage. We must act now to protect it from harmful development.
Please sign this petition urging authorities to halt commercial dock construction in Stevenson Creek immediately. Don’t set the precedent for mass docks in this delicate estuary. ( Your donation goes to Change.org to promote the petition,( NOT TO THIS PETITIONER)
