Stop the members of the Spokane City council from getting a pay raise
The Issue
The Spokane City council is preparing to get a pay raise that would increase members pay by 34% from this year, which would now be $73,000. The council president would get a 37% increase- now $94,500. As Spokane faces increased costs like the rest of the Nation, its a slap in the face to consider such raises. The city itself had a deficit of $25 million in 2025 and in 2026 its recorded to be at $15 million. If we are already out spending what we have, then why would we give money away to the people supposed to be fixing it? Even the mayor, Lisa Brown said it would be "inappropriate" to recieve a raise. These people, when faced with issues such as the protest/disobedience last year or wildfires we seen this year, seem to falter and not be seen, I dont want my money going to incompetence.
