Just a quick update to clarify the numbers in my last update as well as add to them sadly. The whale pictured above washed up today not too far from where the new turbines are being installed for the Vineyard Wind industrialization project. That brings the numbers according to NOAA to 66 confirmed dead large whales and 2 reported whales not yet washed ashore, 68 in total since December 2022. There have also been 369 smaller cetacean (small whale and dolphin) strandings/deaths. This doesn’t include the three live strandings this week also near Vineyard Wind. This number is outrageous! The only thing that has changed is wind turbine activity.
NOAA is calling this an unprecedented “unique mortality event” yet continues to insist this never before seen massacre has no relation to offshore wind. But most watermen, fishermen and coastal residents believe whole heartedly that osw is 100% to blame. NOAA continues to issue permits to the many offshore wind companies so they may legally hurt or kill thousands of wildlife including more supposedly protected North Atlantic Right Whale than actually exist! So much for the Endangered Species Act! Please help us stop this insanity! Sign and share this petition and call / email ALL your legislators from your mayor to President Biden and demand a stop to this before several critically endangered species are forced into extinction! This is all happening in the feeding grounds and migratory path of our North Atlantic Right Whale. They help us get carbon emissions out of our atmosphere but there are only 340 left in the world and they are all off our east coast.
