There's one month left until private equity firm KingSett Capital begins its appeal hearing at the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), where they hope to push through approval for their luxury condo at King and Cowan. As you know, this kind of development makes money for the rich while the rest of us are left with a deadly housing crisis.
It's time for us to come together and fight for Parkdale. There are many ways for us to show our collective power:
- SIGN our open letter demanding KingSett drop its appeal and leave Parkdale alone
- CANVASS Parkdale with us this Wednesday, May 7, 5-7pm; drop by outside the Parkdale library anytime to join
- PARK PARTY! Head out to Cowan-Masaryk Park Saturday, May 10, 2-5pm for updates, banner painting, & momos; join any time, registration optional
- SHOW UP at KingSett's downtown office with us to deliver our letter in person on the morning of Wednesday, May 21; more info to come

We’ve made an impact through collective action before. Last year over 1,500 people signed our petition demanding that KingSett make 30% of the units affordable at their proposed King/Cowan luxury condo. That petition was cited in the city’s refusal of KingSett’s application. Despite this strong opposition from the neighbourhood, city planners, and city councilors, KingSett has appealed the city’s refusal to the OLT, the notoriously pro-developer body. The OLT hearing will begin on June 2.
KingSett may have money and lawyers, but Parkdale has people power. If we want to protect Parkdale from further attacks by corporations like KingSett, we need to come together and make our voice heard!
