Stop the Life Insurance Betrayal: Protect Older People from Unfair Premium Hikes

Stop the Life Insurance Betrayal: Protect Older People from Unfair Premium Hikes
The Issue
My dad paid hard earned money into a life insurance policy for 41 years, trusting that it would protect our family. Now, he's being told he must either more than double his monthly payments — or see his payout cut by over £20,000 (over half).
He wasn’t warned this could happen. This is the result of a “policy review” triggered by the insurer, ReAssure. If he can’t afford the higher premium (like many older people can’t), he loses the value he’s been paying into for years. And this won't just happen once, it'll go on happening, every year until he can no longer afford to keep it up.
This isn't just about one person — it's happening across the country. These “reviewable” life policies were sold without clear warnings that costs could spiral in later life. They hit hardest when people are most financially vulnerable, and often unable to switch.
Thousands of older people are being priced out of protection they’ve already paid for.
It’s unjust and its immoral but its also legal, and that needs to change.
We’re calling for:
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to investigate the scale of harm and demand accountability
A freeze on further premium hikes until affected policyholders are properly informed and supported
Stronger protections and transparency in the life insurance market for older consumers
Please sign if you believe financial products should be fair, honest, and humane — and help protect our parents and grandparents from being quietly exploited.
