Just another quick update for you all.
I'm expecting an explanation this coming week from Natural England over the Herring Gull licences.
The species, as you will know, is in rapid and dramatic population decline and I wanted to know why the agency had issued licences to kill up to 7000 of the birds in just over two years.
Meanwhile, with this in mind, I have today asked Natural England if they would consider suspending further approval of licences to kill Herring Gulls, at least until such time as a thorough re-assessment of the population has been undertaken and verified.

(Comments welcome - the subject of Herring Gulls does seem to divide opinion, not least when it is fuelled by hysterical media reports of gull 'attacks'....)
The petition is currently at around 345,000 signatures - amazing!
