51,000 voices: the petition has been delivered to San Antonio’s new leadership
More than 51,000 people signed this petition demanding meaningful lifesaving reform at San Antonio Animal Care Services.

Today, I formally sent the petition to Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, all ten members of the San Antonio City Council, City Manager Erik Walsh, ACS Director Jonathan Gary, San Antonio Animal Care Services, and the members of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee.

I have also asked that the petition be forwarded to the Animal Care Services Advisory Board and placed before the appropriate city committee for formal consideration.

Although this petition began under the previous city administration, its concerns remain painfully urgent. San Antonio animals continue to face extremely short rescue deadlines and the risk of euthanasia because of shelter capacity. The city must invest seriously in prevention, spay-and-neuter access, foster and rescue partnerships, earlier networking, humane shelter capacity, transparent reporting and measurable reductions in preventable deaths.

Mia entered the shelter as a happy four-year-old dog wearing her pink harness. She was killed only three days later. Her life mattered.

The petition now gives San Antonio’s new administration an opportunity—and a responsibility—to act.
