In Montreal, Louka Berman has been charged for extending kindness and care to an injured baby raccoon, lovingly named Pepper. Found at a construction site in May, Pepper was in dire need of help. Since then, Louka has nurtured her back to health, forming an inseparable bond.  https://globalnews.ca/news/12104572/montreal-man-raccoon-charges/

Loukas Bergman wants to open a sanctuary for Pepper, and the Montreal SPCA agrees that wild animals should go to a rescue, not be killed.
Despite repeated attempts to release Pepper into the wild, Pepper consistently returns, seeking the companionship she shares with Louka. Her instinct to stay speaks volumes about the relationship they have cultivated—one rooted in compassion and mutual reliance.  https://montrealgazette.com/news/pepper-montreal-viral-raccoon-cryptocurrency-memecoin/

Unfortunately, in Quebec, the law mandates permits for possession of wild animals, and Louka now faces allegations from wildlife authorities that he retained Pepper unlawfully. The consequences could be tragic; if taken from Louka, Pepper risks being killed.  https://www.instagram.com/pepperanddeadpool?rpxt=azU2NGF5MXFieWNs

This situation recalls stories of other loving human-animal bonds, akin to those of Peanut and Fred, that have captured hearts in Quebec. It is crucial to recognize that Pepper's life is more than just legality—it's about the love and safety she shares with Louka.  Please help raise money for an on island rehabilitation centre, Pepper’s Place.

Immediate action is needed! We implore Quebec's wildlife authorities to re-evaluate this decision. Instead of punitive measures, let's find a compassionate solution—one that respects Louka's intent and Pepper's well-being.  Perhaps Pepper could go to Ecomuseum Sanctuary in Saint Anne de Bellevue, on the West Island of Montreal.

Sign this petition to support a compassionate resolution for Pepper. Let's stand together to protect not just a life, but a bond that showcases the best of humanity's compassion and care.

A Montreal man is fighting legal charges after rescuing an injured baby raccoon and nursing her back to health. Louka Berman found Pepper at a construction site in May and says the two have formed an inseparable bond. Despite attempts to release her into the wild, Pepper reportedly keeps waiting for him to return. Quebec wildlife authorities are investigating allegations that he kept the raccoon without a permit, while Berman fears she could be euthanized if taken away. The Montreal SPCA suggests a wildlife sanctuary could be the best solution, and supporters have launched a fundraiser to help give Pepper a safe home. 🐾⚖️
