Do not sign new petition until reading - Winnetka shoreline still obliterated, we deserve better!

Not so fast! We don’t support the petition recently circulating.

It creates a false sense of urgency to plow ahead with a plan that has no louvers, but huge planter box ‘walls’ that create same result: no shoreline view or access. 

Just a few of the many things to know: 

• Huge concrete planters (containing up to 20+ foot tall trees) would be completely blocking beach views and access.

• Plan still is in violation of the Illinois public trust doctrine 

• Stone breakwaters that extend 110’ further into the lake than the original Winnetka 2030 approved plan (190’ vs 300’). An unnecessary taxpayer expense. 

• a private landowner retaining the right to dictate the park district’s use of their land (no end to this agreement) 

• the drawings are inaccurate and we will send another update with more on the problem areas and what is not shown  

• A fellow resident’s image to show the elevation that would be blocked (by rocks and planter box) is attached to this update and has been verified by several people to contain accurate dimensions for the planter boxes - this image is not a rendering - we will be measuring and asking for much more info at the meeting!

There is no rush in advance of the meeting, because nothing is being by decided until residents have a chance to discuss options and then agree / disagree. Another meeting follows that one.

Meet at Centennial Beach (225 Sheridan Road, Winnetka) to learn about breakwater design options.

Lloyd Beach 6pm:

Meet at Lloyd Beach (799 Sheridan Road, Winnetka) to compare the height of a proposed Centennial Beach breakwater design to the height of the present Lloyd Beach breakwater structure.

Hubbard Woods School auditorium 7pm:

Meet at the Hubbard Woods School auditorium (1111 Chatfield Road, Winnetka) to wrap up the workshop. This will be an opportunity to recap and share ideas + insights as it regards to the Elder Lane + Centennial Project.

Special Board Meeting: Lakefront Workshop - Winnetka Park District
