Stop the Houston Funplex From Turning Into a Data Center!

The Issue

Amid Unconfirmed Reports of a Data Center Plan, the Funplex’s Future Remains Uncertain.

For 40 years, the Houston Funplex has been a landmark for Alief and West Houston. Families have celebrated birthdays here, children have learned to skate, teens have gathered for games, and countless community members have created memories under its unique ceilings and iconic ferris wheel. At 200,000 square feet, the Funplex has offered something for everyone. Bowling, skating, arcade games, laser tag, playports, parties, and races have made it one of the few places in this area where people of all ages can come together.

If the Funplex contents are auctioned off in September as scheduled, Alief and West Houston will lose one of the last large scale entertainment centers in the region. Its closure would erase decades of cultural and family history. It would also take away jobs, accessible recreation, and a gathering place that has brought neighbors together for generations. This community cannot afford to lose another cornerstone in the way Houston lost Astroworld in 2005.

There might still be a chance to make a difference. The property was purchased this year by 13700 Data, LLC, managed by Brett Miles in Houston, as reported by The Houston Chronicle. There is speculation online that it may be converted into a data center, though this has not been independently confirmed. The new owner has the opportunity to preserve what the Funplex means to so many rather than removing it from the community.

By raising our voices, sharing our stories, and showing how important this space is, we can encourage a decision to cancel this auction and reopen the Funplex, protecting community value over short term gain. Please sign the petition and spread the word today. Together we can work to change the outcome.

Edit: My goal isn't just to prevent a possible data center, but to continue the Fame City/Funplex legacy.
