Stop the high rise development in Park Street, Port Macquarie

Stop the high rise development in Park Street, Port Macquarie
The issue
Having lived in Port Macquarie for more than 20 years I have always loved the unique charm and breathtaking beauty of our town. The towering pine trees, the pristine beaches, and our beautiful foreshore are part of our identity. However, the NSW state government's proposed construction of an 18-storey high-rise development in Park Street threatens to ruin the look and feel that makes our town special. This area is currently zoned for buildings no taller than 18 metres, reflecting a community vision that values natural beauty and an unobstructed skyline. Allowing an 18-storey building would not only clash with our community standards but also set a dangerous precedent for future high-rise developments.
Port Macquarie has long resisted overdevelopment, favouring community-friendly planning that considers environmental sustainability and aesthetic values. This high-rise project undermines all these principles, risking overpopulation, increased traffic congestion, and strain on local resources and infrastructure.
Local government has a crucial role to play in reinforcing our shared community values. We call upon our council and local state member to publicly oppose this development. By doing so, they affirm their commitment to the people's vision and the conservation of Port Macquarie’s unique character. It's time to stand together against projects that disregard the desires and voices of local residents.
We need as many voices as possible to show that this high-rise development is not welcome here. Please help us protect the heart and soul of Port Macquarie by signing this petition. Together, we can ensure that our town remains the beautiful place we know and love.
