THE FINAL SMOKING GUN: Aug. Email Show the Mayor Was Copied on the Traffic Data Before His Response

Dear Mayor Carley
Although the administration is already in possession of the official police traffic report for Academy Street, documenting 8,240 vehicles per day and an 85th-percentile speed of 36 mph in a residential area with a posted 25 mph speed limit, we are submitting additional documentation that establishes when these findings were communicated to township leadership.
Attached: The August Email Records
These records document that the Township Manager was directly emailed and the Mayor was copied on correspondence formally communicating the Academy Street traffic metrics in August. This establishes a documented timeline showing that township leadership had been made aware of the official traffic data approximately two months before our Change.org petition was launched.
Despite this prior notification, the Mayor subsequently responded to our petition by stating that there was no speeding problem on Academy Street.
That statement must be addressed in light of the documented traffic data and the prior communication of those findings to township leadership. We previously requested a public correction and allowed 24 hours for a response. That deadline has passed without a response.
The purpose of this submission is to ensure that the administration can no longer overlook the documented communication timeline. We are preserving the correspondence and traffic report so that residents can review the evidence and understand when township leadership was informed of the findings.
We formally request the following:
A public correction: An update to the Mayor’s response on our Change.org petition acknowledging the documented traffic data and correcting the statement that there was no speeding problem on Academy Street.
A written response: A substantive explanation addressing the traffic metrics and the August correspondence demonstrating that these findings had previously been communicated to township leadership.
A clear commitment to accuracy: Confirmation that future public statements regarding Academy Street traffic safety will accurately reflect the available data.
Given the documented traffic conditions and the communication timeline, we expect this matter to be addressed directly and professionally. If we do not receive a satisfactory written response, we will take immediate next steps to ensure the South Brunswick community is fully informed of these traffic safety metrics and the administrative record.
Sincerely,
The Kingston Coalition
