I've recieved an email from the NUS, of which I have copied in part here:
“I’m having to loan money from family and friends just to live”
“It’s affecting my anxiety and depression massively, and I’ve had to use food banks and pawn shops just to try and get by”
“I’m on the verge of giving up my course”
Students from all over the UK are telling us the same thing: the cost of living crisis is hurting their studies, their mental health and their future.
The level of student poverty we’re seeing isn’t normal – it’s an appalling failure by the Government to support and invest in students.
In the absence of any action from policymakers, we’ve set up the Students Urgent Action Fund to power up our campaign to prevent students being pushed into poverty - but we can’t do this without your help.
