Stop the Funding of F1 Grand Prix in Rwanda Due to Human Rights Violations
Das Problem
Personal experiences and countless reports of brutality in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have painted a terrifying picture. Countless innocent people have been ruthlessly killed and many women raped by rebels backed by the Rwandan Defense Forces (RDF). These acts of terror have forced citizens to flee and abandon their territories, which are then exploited for minerals like Coltan and Cobalt by forcing detained people including children to labor in slave-like conditions in the mining fields. These minerals are subsequently sold illicitly to Western countries for the development of items like batteries for electric vehicles, smartphones, computers, and rockets.
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame is implicated in supporting these activities through the plunder of the DRC's rare minerals, with funds potentially used to finance the upcoming Formula 1 Grand Prix in Rwanda and various sport sponsorships like the Visit Rwanda campaign promoted by soccer teams like Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Bayern Munich. By facilitating major sporting events like the upcoming F1 Grand Prix in Rwanda, we silently consent to these atrocities that cost millions of innocent lives and are creating a climate of terror and destroying any chance of development for others countries in Central Africa. This directly contradicts the values of sportsmanship, unity, and fair competition.
Let's unite against the exploitation and killing of innocent lives and complicity in human rights abuses. Stand in solidarity with the people of the DRC and demand an immediate stop to the funding of the F1 Grand Prix in Rwanda by President Kagame's administration, putting an end to this cycle of exploitation, violence, and corruption. Save lives and protect human rights. Please sign this petition.
