Stop the Fuel Pumps at College Road and HWY 305 Intersection

The Issue

Do you live on or adjacent to College Road? Is your neighborhood close to Highway 305? If so, you are probably already aware of the proposed commercial construction of a convenience store at the intersection of Highway 305 and College Road directly across the street from Dollar General. Did you know that when the county approved the commercial development, fuel pumps were not allowed?

Fast Forward to the present day and the land is now part of the City of Olive Branch. The developer from Germantown, TN has submitted plans for approval that INCLUDE fuel pumps and has twice gone before the City of Olive Branch Planning Commission for approval. The measure failed the first time, however, it was successful at the second attempt on August 8, 2023.

The development of that corner for commercial purposes is not at issue, the fuel pumps as part of that development are a sticking point for a majority of the homeowners that will be affected by:

  1. Surges in the traffic count that are already reaching maximum density for the current infrastructure.
  2. Creating an even more dangerous intersection due to the blind spot on Highway 305 that occurs just south of the traffic light in front of the proposed construction and not enough space to create an effective turn lane for front entry.
  3. Environmental hazards that have the potential to pollute the waterway directly behind the proposed construction in between Mitchell's Corner East subdivision and the proposed construction.
  4. Potential Fire hazards due to the fuel trucks and dangerous intersection.
  5. Impact on property value
  6. Potential increase in crime
  7. Inappropriate use of site in a residential community

The next step in the process of achieving final approval for the fuel pumps is for the Board of Alderman to consider and vote on the fuel pumps.  Without approval from the Board of Alderman, the developer will not be able to add the fuel pumps.

This petition is our way of directly speaking to every member of the Board of Alderman, letting our duly elected officials know what our wishes are on this matter.  The Board of Alderman will meet Tuesday, August 15th and this topic is on the agenda.
