Stop the FCPS Boundary Change That Disrupts Our Community and Puts Students at Risk

Stop the FCPS Boundary Change That Disrupts Our Community and Puts Students at Risk
The Issue
We are families from the Timber Lane Elementary School community who have lived together, learned together, and grown together for generations.
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is proposing a boundary change that would remove our neighborhood from the McLean High School and Longfellow Middle School pyramids—schools that have served our community for over 40 years—and reassign students to Falls Church High School and Luther Jackson Middle School.
This proposal:
Forces children to cross two major highways to reach their new schools
Separates siblings, friends, and neighbors
Breaks apart school continuity that supports academic and emotional development
Disrupts a diverse, tight-knit community without offering real educational benefit
This is not just about test scores or school rankings. Many of us do not own property, yet we’re raising our children here because of the safe, stable, and successful educational environment we’ve all helped build.
We believe in equity and excellence for every student. But real equity means investing in all schools—not disrupting established communities under the guise of fairness.
We urge FCPS to:
Listen to the families directly impacted
Keep Timber Lane families within the McLean pyramid
Consider alternatives that do not break apart stable school communities

Separa a hermanos, amigos y vecinos
