STOP the Expansion of Mile High Marina to Protect Payette Lake

STOP the Expansion of Mile High Marina to Protect Payette Lake
The Issue
If you enjoy Payette Lake in any way, from paddleboarding, swimming, boating or simply enjoying the view, this issue is of concern to you.
Payette Lake, a gem in McCall, ID, is under threat due to plans by Mile High Marina to add 90 additional boat slips. This expansion will not only affect McCall’s public water supply but also disrupt the tranquility of our beloved lake. The increase in boat traffic poses safety hazards for motorized and non-motorized vessels, swimmers and others enjoying the lake's recreational activities.
Moreover, an influx of boats brings with it noise pollution and larger waves that cause erosion along our shoreline and impact the safety and enjoyment of those swimming or recreating there. According to a study by the University of Idaho Water Resources Research Institute (2018), increased boat traffic can significantly degrade water quality and disturb aquatic ecosystems.
In addition, there are only 2 fuel pumps on the lake and adding 90 more boats will increase wait times for fuel and increase congestion around Legacy Park and beach, the most popular public beach in our community. Also of concern is the lack of parking around the Legacy Park area. With the significant increase in boater parking and already limited downtown parking, business’ will likely suffer as would-be patrons will have difficulty securing a parking spot to enjoy that lunch or shopping experience.
Does our community want to have Payette Lake and downtown McCall changed forever? If even a fraction of the 90 new boats use the lake more regularly, we are at risk of experiencing Fourth of July lake traffic all summer long. How many of us already avoid the lake during the 4th of July holiday because the waves are too big to paddleboard, ski or swim and the traffic is too congested to safely pull the kids on a tube?
This is an extremely important decision and we must consider these impacts on our community and environment before allowing such expansions.
We urge you to sign this petition to stop Mile High Marina from adding 90 additional boat slips - let's protect Payette Lake for future generations!
