Stop the Execution of School Redistricting Lines in Davidsonville, MD

Stop the Execution of School Redistricting Lines in Davidsonville, MD
The Issue
For several years, our families have cherished Davidsonville Elementary as a foundation in our community. It’s a place where generations have formed lasting friendships, formed strong educational growth, and has been part of a committed and supportive local community. Now the proposed redistricting lines threaten to pull many children out of our beloved school. This move not only risks significant emotional distress for young children forced to adapt to a new environment, but disrupts a school many children and families have made a second home. Further, there are additional safety concerns with a new bus route turning into very congested roadways which has experienced fatal accidents. There is also impacts the real estate values in our region, since Davidsonville Elementary is no longer a choice for potential new residents.
Studies have shown that frequent school changes can have adverse effects on a child's academic performance and psychological well-being (American Psychological Association, 2010). The imposition of such drastic changes should not be taken lightly. We urge all decision-makers to consider the long-lasting impacts on children's life and their families.
For the sake of our children, their education, the community bonds we've built, the safety of our children and the value of our neighborhoods, we implore you to reconsider the proposed alteration of district lines. We are calling upon local government and school district officials to open a dialogue with residents and to seek sustainable and less disruptive solutions.
It's not just about lines on a map, it's about the lives of our children and our community. Please support us in stopping the execution of these proposed redistricting lines. We ask you to sign this petition and let our collective voices be heard.
