Stop the Euthanasia of Toothless

The Issue

Provide support to appeal the decision to euthanize this dog (Toothless) in an evaluation taking place this week. He was a stray wandering around a school campus but was found and taken in by a medical student. With the intention of ensuring Toothless was not a missing dog, before pursuing adoption of Toothless himself, and complying with the local ordinance; the student contacted local animal control.

It was later discovered that Toothless had already escaped animal control while being transferred to the local shelter. They had classified Toothless as a “vicious animal” which may result in euthanasia unless appealed. This classification was ruled after animal control employees stated that acts of aggression from Toothless aimed at the employees occurred as they attempted to secure him.

Toothless was happily following my dog and I around as we walked. Although skeptical of people (aside from his newly befriended medical student) and despite having an injured leg, Toothless still showed a bubbly and mildly sassy personality by attempting to initiate play with my dog. It is unknown how long he has been a stray or how long he had been injured before being found, but displayed a desire to connect regardless.

Aggression is a serious issue with dogs and shouldn't be taken lightly; however, those on campus who interacted with Toothless did not have the experience the animal control employees expressed. While hesitant to approach people, understandably so as he had been hurt and lost, no unprovoked aggression was observed nor injuries obtained by students while interacting with him.

I will not name the facility here, as the intention of this petition is not to bombard them, but to show collective support for Toothless and the medical student who wants to provide him with a home. The department is permitted to waive the appeal. Toothless did not have an identified owner prior to entering the department's custody but they have offered recognize the appeal. It is important to maintain a respectful and civil relationship with the department through this process.

Please sign the petition to show support for giving Toothless a chance at a new life.
