Preserve Plains Township - Vote No to Energy and Technology overlay in Plains Twp PA
The Issue
Our beloved township stands on the brink of a transformation that threatens the very essence of our community. For many residents, this isn’t just a place—it's our home, our sanctuary. The proposed Energy and technology overlay and Zoning change of Conservation land to R1 or Industrial endangers everything we hold dear, including our right to clean air, water, and power.
The introduction of Hyperscale data centers, power generation plants, and solar farms into our neighbourhood is not just an industrial leap; it’s a potential hazard to our environment and health. Data centers are known to consume vast amounts of energy and water. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers account for approximately 2% of the total electricity use in the United States. The environmental cost of such centers is significant, leading to higher energy consumption and taxing our natural resources.
Not to mention, the industrial noise and pollution from power plants could disrupt the peace and tranquility of our communities. The increased air pollution from such industrial additions could have severe consequences, exacerbating respiratory issues and reducing quality of life. Our local wildlife, thriving under current conservation efforts, would also face significant disruptions due to these developments.
We cannot overlook the importance of preserving our natural environment for future generations. By allowing these changes, we're not just compromising our present but also jeopardizing the environmental legacy we intend to pass down. Instead of industrial expansion, we should be focusing on sustainable community-driven solutions that respect the balance between development and ecology.
Our township has thrived with its blend of residential and protected areas. Turning parts of our community into a sprawling industrial setup would only undermine this delicate blend. There are alternative methods for economic advancement that do not entail sacrificing our natural environment or the health of our residents. If this proposal is passed it will open the door to much more widespread devastation not only in our township, but also in neighboring townships where there is a proposal for a power plant.
By signing this petition, you’re not just supporting a cause; you’re safeguarding a community. Let’s stand together to ensure our township remains a place we are proud to call home, now and for generations to come. Please sign this petition to stop the expansion of the industrial zone and protect our community and environment.
