Holiday greetings!
Many will have seen the news in November that the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO - an association of Canadian nuclear power/waste producers) has now targetted Northwestern Ontario for its deep geological repository for all of Canada's nuclear fuel waste. While this is not what we had hoped for, resistance continues and will be very effective. Most recently, a few days ago Eagle Lake First Nation (ELFN) filed a legal challenge against the NWMO for its biased siting practices and lack of fair consultation.
Environment North also continues its opposition by supporting research, advocacy and education on the risks of nuclear waste burial and abandonment. As we enter a new phase of opposition to the nuclear industry's proposed project, we are always grateful for any support we receive to enhance our ability to spread our important message.
