Do you drive a van? Have you been hit, or continually hit with recurring fines for not fitting within the constraints of standard UK sized parking spaces? This may seem menial to some. But for builders - often sole traders, micro business owners, or even independent delivery drivers and camper van users, this can cause significant financial burden. 

Van drivers around the UK, can be fined £80+ every time they park their vehicle, for overhanging or not fitting between the lines. 

In fact, the lack of sufficient sized parking for commercial vehicles costs the UK economy £76.2 BILLION per year!! 

Stating the obvious; Vans are not standard sized vehicles!  They need more space for safe manoeuvring, and are essential tools for many builders, construction firms and indeed delivery services around the country. They're essential. 

Larger provisions are made to those with Blue badges to accommodate accessibility needs. Larger bays are provided for parents with children and prams.

Yet, there are no (less than 1%) provisions made for larger vehicles who cannot fit within the constraints of the bays provided, and drivers risk being fined £80+ every time they park as a result!

We have raised this matter with the Department for Transport and are actively calling on the British Parking Association to take leadership on this to bring judicial review and factor how van users may be victim of discrimination (under the Equality Act) as a result of failure of public bodies to accommodate common vehicle types - including commercial vans.
