Stop the development of Hendra's horse paddocks

Stop the development of Hendra's horse paddocks
The issue
In Hendra, Queensland, our community stands at a crossroads, facing the imminent threat of losing our cherished and greatly needed paddocks on Raceview Avenue. For many of us, including myself, these paddocks are vital to housing our horses. From young horses needing somewhere to grow, off the track thoroughbreds being given a second lease on life, and retired old ponies - this is their home.
These paddocks are now under threat of development, and if this proceeds, we’ll be left without a local place to care for our horses, forcing us to drive 40 minutes or more every day, twice a day. This is not just about convenience; it’s about preserving a way of life and a piece of our local heritage. There are few racing stables left in this area too- an area which used to be a hub for horse owners and lovers alike.
Beyond their practical use, these paddocks play a significant role in our community. Children light up when they visit, bringing treats and pats. For many, this is their first introduction to these magnificent animals. The joy and learning experiences that take place here are invaluable and cannot be relocated to another area without significant loss.
The significance of the horse paddocks extends beyond leisure. Hendra is steeped in equine culture and history. Allowing the development of these paddocks would be erasing a part of the identity that defines our neighborhood.
We urgently need your help to safeguard these paddocks from commercial development. By coming together as a community, we can make our voices heard and ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy and learn from this local treasure.
Please join me in taking a stand against this development. Your signature can make a difference in preserving a vital part of Hendra for everyone who calls it home and all who cherish its unique, equine heritage. Sign the petition today to help protect our beloved horse paddocks on Raceview Avenue.
Submissions can also be made directly to Brisbane City Council at DSPlanningSupport@brisbane.qld.gov.au
