The Issue

I am deeply concerned about a development proposal that threatens to transform Bestwood Village, Nottinghamshire, by building 300 houses on our cherished green belt land. This area, steeped in history with Bronze Age and Roman artefacts, serves as a vital green lung and a space of significant cultural heritage. The construction of these homes not only jeopardizes our environment and heritage but also risks overwhelming an already struggling infrastructure.

Our village is already grappling with inadequate services. We do not have a local dentist, GP surgery, or chemist to meet the needs of our growing community. The roads are already at breaking point, and the sparse bus service leaves many residents isolated. Introducing 300 additional homes without prior enhancements to our infrastructure will intensify these issues, compromising the quality of life for all of us.

Green belts exist for a reason: to prevent urban sprawl, protect our countryside, and preserve historical sites for future generations. Allowing this development would set a dangerous precedent, undermining these values and putting similar areas at risk across the nation.

We call on the local council to reject this proposal or, at the very least, mandate necessary infrastructure improvements before considering such large-scale developments. This includes ensuring adequate healthcare facilities, improving road networks, and enhancing public transportation to sustainably support existing and new residents.

Let’s preserve Bestwood Village’s cultural heritage, natural environment, and community integrity. Please join me in signing this petition to stand against this development and demand better planning for our village's future.
