Growing up near the Everglades, I've seen firsthand the beauty and irreplaceability of this unique ecosystem. The expansive wetlands and their rich biodiversity have always been a sanctuary and source of inspiration. However, a new threat looms over the horizon. The proposition to transform Miami Dade Collier County Jet Port into Alligator Alcatraz is a reckless initiative that would cause irreversible damage to the Everglades, the most precious resource of Florida.

The proposed facility will lead to overcrowding, with numerous planes flying in and out of the area. This increase in air traffic poses a significant risk to the fragile ecosystem. Birds and other wildlife could be disrupted, and the pollution from planes would have devastating effects on the clean air and water vital to the Everglades. Florida's environment is already vulnerable due to climate change; we cannot afford to further compromise it.

Moreover, the Everglades play a crucial role in supporting the region’s biodiversity, including many endangered species. The disruption that will be caused by this development will create irreversible ecological consequences, driving out wildlife and affecting the natural balance that has been maintained for millennia.

This proposition is not just an environmental issue; it is a matter of heritage and legacy. What kind of world do we want to leave for future generations? The Everglades are a symbol of Florida's natural heritage, one that we must protect fiercely. We must speak up against such ill-conceived plans that prioritize temporary economic gains over long-term ecological health.

Let’s take action now to safeguard our environment. By rejecting this proposal, we can preserve the Everglades for our children and grandchildren and all those who treasure its beauty.
