Stop the destruction of Kaziranga National Park

The Issue

Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Assam, India, is not just a symbol of our natural heritage but a vital sanctuary for countless species, including the endangered Indian rhinoceros, elephants, tigers, and diverse bird species.

As an active volunteer deeply committed to environmental causes, I am heartbroken to witness the increasing threats to this iconic park. It is imperative that we act now to prevent further destruction and safeguard its biodiversity for future generations.

The park's survival is already severely threatened by illegal encroachments, rampant poaching, and human-induced habitat destruction. According to a 2022 report by the Wildlife Protection Society of India, instances of poaching in the park have surged by 30% over the last five years. This alarming trend not only endangers wildlife but also undermines conservation efforts that have been in place for decades.

Moreover, recent expansions in agricultural land have encroached upon critical habitats, displacing wildlife and leading to human-animal conflicts.

Most recently, the Assam government has decided to minimise the Eco Sensitive Zone from its present 10 kms to 1 kms, all in the name of development. It's a clear violation of animal welfare rights and destruction of a massive conservation site.

We need global attention and collaborative action to address this issue.

Kaziranga National Park is not merely a protected area but a testament to the natural beauty and biodiversity of our planet. Its destruction would be an irreversible loss. We urge the Assam government, conservation bodies, and the international community to unite in their efforts to secure the future of this invaluable sanctuary.

Please sign this petition to call for immediate action to protect Kaziranga National Park from further destruction. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that this incredible natural heritage remains intact for generations to come.
