At yesterday’s meeting of Basingstoke Council’s Planning Committee the councillors voted 9-1 with one abstention, to refuse the Newlands’ planning application for one of the largest Amazon warehouses in the UK. 
It is very likely that now the developers will appeal against this refusal but in this instance, we can be proud that local democracy worked. This shows clearly that protecting the natural environment is a priority not only for Basingstoke Council but for all the petitioners who have supported the SaveOakdownOaks campaign.
