Tuğba Koç is a young Turkish woman who has been living in Denmark for 2 years. Her story is one of courage, survival, and the desperate search for safety and dignity.

What Tuğba has been through:

Tuğba was targeted by Turkish authorities solely because of her alleged links to the Gülen movement. Because of this, she was detained and interrogated under harsh and inhumane conditions. Following her detention, she was subjected to years of physical surveillance and technical monitoring by Turkish authorities. Living under constant fear and oppression, with no prospect of a free and dignified life, she made the heartbreaking decision to leave her home country.

Two years of waiting – still no safety:

Since arriving in Denmark, Tuğba has not been able to build a new life. For two  years, she has been living in a refugee camp, waiting for a decision on her future. She has not been free. She has not been settled. She has simply been waiting and hoping – alongside her fiancé, who shares this painful journey with her.

Despite everything she has endured, Denmark now wants to send her back.

Why deportation means danger:

Since the 2016 coup attempt, the Turkish government has launched a massive crackdown on anyone with alleged Gülen connections:

Over 150,000 people detained or arrested
Thousands imprisoned without fair trial
Widespread use of torture and inhumane treatment
Systematic surveillance and harassment of suspects and their families
Tuğba has already lived through this nightmare. If she is deported, she faces immediate arrest upon arrival. Her life and freedom are at serious risk.

We call on Danish authorities to:

Reconsider Tuğba Koç's asylum case with full consideration of the dangers she faces
Recognize that two years in a refugee camp is already an enormous sacrifice
Acknowledge that deportation would directly endanger her life and freedom
Uphold Denmark's proud tradition of protecting human rights
Denmark has long been a beacon of human rights and dignity. Deporting Tuğba would betray those values and send her into the hands of those who have already persecuted her.

Tuğba does not want luxury. She does not want special treatment. She only wants what every human being deserves – safety, freedom and dignity.
