It turns out that our new Prime Minister Keir Starmer and our local MP and new Foreign Secretary David Lammy both have a background in law. What's more Keir Starmer worked pro-bono for years on the McLibel case - one of the biggest protest cases of the last 30 years.
This has given us a glimmer of hope. Keir Starmer has said since becoming Prime Minister that he fiercely defends the right to protest. David Lammy has also talked passionately about the Climate Crisis promising to put it at the heart of foreign policy and Yvette Cooper, the new home secretary, has talked about repealing the laws which criminalise protestors. But the extreme sentencing of the Whole Truth Five which happened a few weeks ago has shaken our entire community.
So please help us put pressure on our new government to recognise Marcus as a Climate Defender and to stand by their words by withdrawing his deportation order completely.

Marcus has spent 1 year and 4 months in prison. He still has a GPS tag on his ankle at all times and has to report to the Home Office in Croydon every week: a three and a half hour round trip just to scan a piece of paper. He cannot leave the country and we cannot plan our future until we know what Marcus’s rights are.
We still haven't even been given a court date. Let's hope with your help we never need one...
