Stop the Cruel Shifting of Stray Dogs from Delhi-NCR – Use Humane ABC Program Instead

The Issue

As a compassionate citizen and animal lover, I am deeply concerned by the recent move to shift or relocate stray dogs from the Delhi-NCR region.

While I understand that public safety and hygiene are important, this step of removing dogs from their natural areas is inhumane, short-sighted, and violates animal protection laws. Stray dogs are not “problems” — they are living beings with emotions, territories, and the right to exist peacefully.

Most of these stray dogs are already sterilized and vaccinated under the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, and relocating them:

Causes emotional and physical trauma to the animals

Violates Supreme Court rulings which protect their right to stay in their original territory

Is ineffective, as new unsterilized dogs will enter the same area, restarting the cycle

Instead of shifting dogs, the government should focus on: ✅ Proper implementation of the ABC program (sterilization + vaccination)

✅ Creating safe feeding zones and shelters

✅ Educating the public about co-existing with strays

✅ Taking action only in rare, extreme cases of danger

Dogs are voiceless, but we are not. We must be their voice.

We urge the Animal Welfare Board of India, the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, and the Delhi Municipal Corporation to:

Immediately stop the forced relocation of stray dogs from Delhi-NCR

Strictly follow the ABC Rules and Supreme Court guidelines

Promote compassion, not cruelty
