As concerned residents of Oswego, IL and surrounding areas, we are deeply troubled by the proposed development of a 24,000-seat Cricket Stadium at the Northwest corner of Orchard Rd and Tuscany Trail. This petition aims to prevent this project from moving forward due to its potential negative impact on our community.

As members of the Oswego Community and surrounding areas, we cherish its peaceful atmosphere and close-knit, small-town feel. The proposed Cricket Stadium threatens to disrupt our quality of life in several ways.

Firstly, the lack of parking proposed at 1,100 spaces for a stadium of this size would create a need for overflow to park throughout the sounding neighborhoods.  Heavy traffic congestion is also a major concern. The influx of visitors during cricket matches and national and international events would undoubtedly lead to increased traffic on already busy roads, causing delays for residents trying to commute or run errands. It would put a strain on our already taxed first responders and pose a risk of impeding EMS service response times, while posing safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists. 

Secondly, excessive noise, proposed 90-100 decibels (90-150 can cause permanent hearing loss), and light intrusion are inevitable consequences of hosting large-scale sporting events in our quiet neighborhood. The constant roar from cheering crowds and floodlights illuminating the night sky would disturb residents' peace and tranquility.

Moreover, health risks associated with such developments cannot be ignored. Studies have shown that exposure to excessive noise can lead to stress-related illnesses like hypertension and sleep disturbances. Additionally, light pollution disrupts natural sleep patterns and has been linked to various health issues including insomnia.

Furthermore, an increase in crime rates is often observed around sports stadiums due to large gatherings attracting opportunistic criminals. Our once-safe community could face an unfortunate rise in thefts, vandalism, or even more serious crimes if this stadium were allowed at this location.

Lastly but importantly, we must consider the environmental impact that such a development would have on our surroundings. Construction activities alone can result in soil erosion, water pollution from runoff debris as well as destruction of wildlife habitats which are vital for maintaining ecological balance.

The proposal for a Cricket Stadium at Orchard Rd and Tuscany Trail is simply unacceptable for this specific property and location. It would not only disrupt the historically zoned property but also set a terrible precedent for future developments of this magnitude, potentially compromising our quality of life.

We urge our fellow residents to support this petition and stand against the development of the Cricket Stadium at Orchard Rd and Tuscany Trail. Let us protect our community from the negative consequences that such a project would bring.
