Petition updateStop the creation of a D-Day Theme Park in NormandyOver 750 signatures in 2 days! But a long way still to go...

As the 6th June draws near, when we commemorate the sacrifice of all those who died in the cause of Freedom, we still have one more battle to fight in their memory:  to ensure that their legacy is treated with the respect it deserves. The land they freed has been bought and paid for in blood. It is hallowed ground, not a fairground.

My heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who has signed, donated or shared the petition. To have achieved over 750 signatures in two days is an amazing effort.

But we still have a long way to go. The aim is to have 1000s of signatures in time for the anniversary on 6 June. The plans for this theme park are already well advanced; but it can only succeed with the support of politicians, local and regional. Presently they are behind the project, attracted by the promise of the money it will bring to their region. They need to be made to think again by a clamour of voices, raised in unison and so deafening that it will be heard throughout Normandy and beyond.

So please keep sharing and raising awareness of our cause. Tell anyone who you think will agree that this misguided and cynical project is an insult to the memory of the fallen, and has no place in Normandy, or anywhere else.

You can also contact directly Mr. Hervé Morin, President of the Regional Council of Normandy and chief supporter of the project. This is a man who claims to have his own 'Normandy Memory' of watching the troops land on the beaches - despite being born in 1961!

I will sign off with the words of the grandson of Léon Gautier, the 'last of the first' of the 177 Free French Commandos, who died last year aged 100:

"My grandfather Léon Gautier 4 cdo Kieffer was against this project. Loyal and of the same opinion, I am also AGAINST... War is misery. Soldiers died at the cost of blood and sweat for our freedom... Let us never forget and therefore let us not monetize this newfound freedom!"

Thank you for your continued support.
