As a long-time resident of Wokingham, I feel compelled to express the concerns of our community regarding the proposed construction of a mosque and community centre in our borough. Wokingham is a peaceful, tight-knit community that thrives on its historic charm and the unique character that sets it apart. The introduction of this large-scale development risks altering the fabric of our beloved town in ways that many of us fear would be irreversible.

The residents of Wokingham have expressed significant anxiety about this proposed development. For many, the sheer scale of this project seems incompatible with the surrounding area and will likely cause disruptions to our daily lives. Increased traffic congestion, noise pollution, and pressure on local resources are just a few of the issues that are keeping residents up at night. We do not have the infrastructure in place to cope with such a vast influx of people, which could potentially lead to a decline in the quality of life that we cherish.

Furthermore, this is not a matter of resisting social integration or cultural diversity, which are both respected in our community. It is about preserving the character and charm of Wokingham, ensuring that any new developments are in harmony with the existing community and infrastructure. We believe that there have been inadequate consultations and a lack of transparency surrounding this project. We deserve to have our voices heard and our concerns addressed in a fair and open dialogue.

I urge the council to reconsider this plan and thoroughly assess its impact on our town. Alternative locations better suited for such a development should be evaluated, ones that do not compromise the integrity and livelihood of our community. We need development that complements our town, not reshapes it without consideration for those who live here.

Please help us maintain the essence of Wokingham by signing this petition and making sure our community's future is decided with our collective input and concerns in mind. Let us stand together to ensure any growth is in harmony with the Wokingham we love. Sign this petition to stop the construction of the mosque and community centre in Wokingham now.
