Stop the Construction of a Gas Station in Our Neighborhood

The Issue

Our home. Our sanctuary. Our community.

Once, Manteca was a small, family-oriented town.
Today, it's clear: those days are slipping away under the weight of relentless, unchecked growth.

We are not anti-progress — but we are tired.
Tired of watching our city’s expansion come at the cost of our health, our safety, and the character of the neighborhoods we love.
The proposed AM/PM gas station at Woodward Avenue and Pillsbury Road is just the latest example.

As residents, we do not see this quiet corner as a place for gas pumps and exhaust fumes. We see it as a place for families — for children riding bikes, neighbors chatting, and safe streets that still feel like home.

A gas station does not belong here.
Gas stations bring more than fuel; they bring pollution, noise, traffic congestion, and serious health risks to surrounding homes. Studies show that living near gas stations raises the risk of asthma, heart disease, and cancer (Joe et al., Environmental Health Perspectives).

They also drag down property values and diminish the very reasons people choose to call a neighborhood home (Capozza, Journal of Urban Economics).

This isn’t just about one gas station.
It’s about demanding smart growth, not reckless sprawl.
It’s about protecting the peace, health, and safety of the families who already live here.

We are calling on city leaders to draw the line.
Stop this project.
Honor the people who live here — not just the next commercial development deal.

Please stand with us. Sign the petition.
Together, we can protect what’s left of the community we love.
