Stop the closure of Lochee Community Hub

Stop the closure of Lochee Community Hub
The Issue
Lochee Community Hub is not just a building; it's the heart of our high street and a sanctuary for many of our most vulnerable community members. Since its inception in 2016, it has been a beacon of hope and support, providing critical access to services such as housing, employment, and social groups for all ages and demographics. The Hub's impact has been profound, from helping to combat loneliness through engaging activities like The Scrabble Club, Kith n Kin, Men's group, Neurodiversity Group, and Multi craft group, to being a place where bonds are formed and trust is built.
Despite the tireless efforts of Dundee Voluntary Action (DVVA) and various partners throughout 2025, financial pressures have put the Hub at risk of closure. The community stands to lose a vital resource which not only offers practical support, but also fosters a sense of belonging and unity among residents. Losing the Hub would mean losing a lifeline for many who rely on its services every day.
Statistics show that community hubs like Lochee play a crucial role in tackling social isolation. According to recent data from the Office for National Statistics, individuals who engage in community activities are 30% more likely to report high levels of overall wellbeing compared to those who do not participate in such activities. Closing the hub would mean a setback in mental health and wellbeing for hundreds who use its services.
We, the community of Lochee, are calling on local authorities, governmental bodies, and potential private investors to step forward and secure the necessary funding to keep the Hub operational. Investing in community spaces is an investment in our future – it supports public health, economic recovery, and builds resilient communities. We must explore all possible solutions, such as government grants, private sponsorships, and collaborative initiatives, to ensure the continuation of this indispensable community space.
Join us in urging those in power to understand the invaluable role the Lochee Community Hub plays in our lives. By signing and sharing this petition, you can help us amplify our voices and drive change. Don't let the heart of our community be shuttered. Sign this petition to keep Lochee Community Hub alive and thriving for years to come.
